Bicycle Information

Bike Rentals

No links for this one, since there are so many options. Virtually every bike shop in town rents bikes. Mine cost about $80 for the month; not bad, in my view, especially since bikes are significantly more expensive in Sweden than in the US.

Museums & Culture

Natural History Museum

Maritime Museum and Maritime Center

The Maritime Museum is a combination of a so-so aquarium and a spectacular nautical museum. The Maritime Center is a collection of ships you can tour, including a WWII-era submarine. Both are well worth an afternoon.

Art Museum

One of my favorite places. It's devoted mainly to Scandinavian art; very little of this stuff is found outside Scandinavia, and many of the works in this museum are simply astonishing. A rare treasure.

The Göteborg Symphony

One of the world's great symphonies. Amazing that a city of only a half-million people can support a world-class opera and orchestra. Here in Long Beach, a city of the same size, we have the Civic Light Opera and the Long Beach Symphony. Sigh.

The Opera

Music, in General

This page is in Swedish, but many of the links are in English. I included it because it shows just how much music there is in this town.
