Technical Conferences and Symposia

Only conferences open to all researchers worldwide are listed here. In particular, DARPA conferences and other military symposia with classified sessions, or sessions open only to citizens of certain countries, are not listed. Conversely, we may list any other symposia of interest to RF and microwave engineers, even if they are not blessed by the IEEE or are commercially motivated. However, we'll warn you about such meetings when we think it's appropriate.

Virtually all conferences these days have web sites, which are the primary sources of conference information. We list only conferences that have web sites. If a conference has no web site, the organizers are probably so technologically backward that you shouldn't consider attending their show, anyway.

Predictably, we provide our usual irreverent commentary on many of the symposia. Note to the organizers of symposia we don't like: We're pretty easy to please, so if we don't like your show, no one else does, either. Deal with it.

Conferences Organizers: If you would like your conference listed here, please put us on your regular mailing list. Click here for contact information. We do not retain conference information from year to year, so we must be reminded each time the conference is given. Also, please send us the relevant information at least a few months beforehand. There is no point in listing it for only a couple of weeks.

Virginia Tech Wireless Symposium and Summer School

June 2-4, 2010; Blacksburg, Virginia, USA

MEMSWave 2010: 11th International Symposium on RF MEMS and RF Microsystems

June 28-July1, 2010; Otrano, Italy  (Note the change of dates!)

SISPAD2010: International Conference on Simulation of Semiconductor Processes and Devices

September 6-8; Bologna, Italy

40th European Solid-State Device Research Conference (ESSDERC 2010) and 36th European Solid-State Circuits Conference (ESSCIRC 2010)

September 13-17, 2010; Sevilla, Spain

These two conferences are held jointly. Like most such conferences, they tend to be heavy with "widget" papers. You either love this or hate it.

36th Micro and Nano Engineering MNE 2010 Conference

September 19-22 2010; Genoa, Italy

European Microwave Week

September 26-October 1, 2010; Paris, France

Yeah, back to CNIT in La Defense. It's in Paris again, so watch out for the cars and dog turds! The best thing about having the EuMC in France is that, no matter how disorganized it is, it seems like a huge improvement after last year's debacle in Rome. If it were up to me, I'd have it in Munich every year. The beer's much better.

IEEE Compound Semiconductor IC Symposium

October 3-6, 2010; Monterey, California, USA

2010 Bipolar/BiCMOS Circuits and Technology Meeting

October 4-6, 2010; Austin, Texas, USA

Nanoelectronics Days 2010

October 4-7, 2010; Aachen, Germany

21st European Symposium on Reliability of Electron Devices, Failure Physics and Analysis

October 11-15, 2010; Monte Cassino Abbey and Gaeta, Italy

I don't know much about the conference, but it looks like a wonderful location.

2010 IEEE International Symposium on Phased Array Systems and Technology

October 12-15, 2010; Boston, Massachusetts

Not downtown, thank heavens, so maybe you won't have to sell your Ferrari to finance a room for the week.

2010 International symposium on Phased Array Systems and Technology

October 12-15, 2010; Boston, Massachusetts, USA

The 10th International Workshop on Micro- and Nanotechnology for Power Generation and Energy Conversion Applications: PowerMEMS 2010

November 30 -December 3, 2010; Leuven, Belgium

76th ARFTG Microwave Measurement Symposium

November 30- December 3, 2010; Clearwater Beach, Florida, USA

APMC2010: Asia Pacific Microwave Conference

December 7-10, 2010; Yokohama, Japan

This conference is at its best when located in a country with a lot of microwave technology. In view of this, Japan is perfect. The conference center in Yokohama is a great location, as well.

Radio and Wireless Week 2011

January 16-20, 2011; Phoenix, Arizona, USA

This could be viewed as the winter MTT IMS. It was created to take some of the pressure off the IMS, but since there is considerable overlap in topics, that didn't happen. Originally cobbled together from a collection of small workshops, it now has developed its own identity.

Important: Visitors from outside the US should be aware that the state of Arizona has recently passed a draconian law that not only authorizes but requires local police to harass visitors and residents from outside the US regarding their immigration status. It is likely that some non-US attendees may have some ugly experiences, should they choose to attend this symposium.

I recommend that (1) non-US visitors sit this one out, and (2) that US members boycott this, and any other conferences or symposia  in Arizona, until officials of that state can unequivocally guarantee courteous and respectful treatment of our international colleagues.

EUROCON 2011 and CONFTELE 2011: 8th Conf. on Telecommunications and Int. Conf. on Computer as a Tool

April 27-29, 2011; Lisbon, Portugal

Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and mmW Circuits Conference INMMIC

April or May 2011, Vienna, Austria

This is a small, high-quality workshop covering all aspects of nonlinear circuit analysis and modeling. Current plans are to hold this conference in Vienna in the spring of 2011 and in Dublin, Ireland in early 2012.

IEEE MTT International Microwave Symposium, RFIC Symposium, and ARFTG

June 5-10, 2011; Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Future Symposia:

This is the big tamale. Check out the official web site for the party line, then click here for the unofficial one, to find out how it all really works.

The ARFTG conference is traditionally held on Friday of IMS week.
